University Housing's Residents' Guidelines for Living On Campus contains specific information relating to living on campus. Guidelines are available on-line at:

Undergraduate: http://housing.rutgers.edu/ie/resguide.html
Graduate: http://housing.rutgers.edu/ie/gradguide.html
Graduate Family: http://housing.rutgers.edu/ie/famhousing.html

The information in this booklet is provided for your benefit. Please read it carefully.

Below are some important highlights:

Your housing agreement is a contract between you and the university for the space you occupy during the academic year. If you need to cancel your housing contract for any reason after the semester has begun, contact your campus housing office for details.

Your residence space and the furniture in it becomes your responsibility when you move in. A Room/Apartment Condition and Inventory Form (that you will find in your room), indicates the condition of the room and furniture during our inspection. To avoid any misunderstandings about wear and tear when you move out, check the form and return it to your campus housing office within your first 7 days of occupancy. If you find discrepancies, discuss them with your campus housing office.

Residents share responsibility for damage to common areas in their building if the individuals who caused the damage are not identified.

A key for your room/apartment will be given to you the day you move in. Your RUconnection (Student Identification card) will allow you to access your building. Keep your key and card safe and DON'T lend them to others!

Serving and/or consumption of alcoholic beverages on university property, which includes your room or apartment, must fully comply with all university regulations as well as local, state, and federal laws and regulations.

Smoking is prohibited in all buildings owned and managed by the university including all areas of residence halls and apartments (even those managed by outside corporations), classrooms, lecture halls, gymnasiums, playing fields, and other recreational areas.

All Rutgers University residents are asked to abide by the New Jersey law that requires we recycle paper, glass, cans, and plastic (nos. 1 and 2). Marked sorting containers are available to help you help protect the environment.

No pets or laboratory animals of any kind are allowed in university housing.

To protect all students who live on campus, fire prevention and safety guidelines have been established. All residence halls are equipped with smoke detectors and sprinkler systems. Room inspections and emergency evacuation drills are conducted each semester.

Among many items which are NOT allowed in your room in the interest of fire safety are open: open flame devices including all types of candles, flammable and combustible fluids, home-made wiring, lamps with halogen bulbs, and chemicals. For a complete list of prohibited items, see the Residents' Guidelines for Living on Campus.

The residents in your unit or area may set specific rules to establish quiet hours for studying, hours for visitors, limits on alcohol, or other similar restrictions.
